Our interactions with the objects and environments around us are based on commonly understood forms and symbols, whether they be instinctive or learnt. Using an unusual object for the first time is a complex experience of expectation, input and feedback,'...what happens if I push the red button?' Key to
our idea was to emphasise and isolate the
interactive elements of the juicer, input and output,
by placing communicative details on an otherwise ambiguous box that conceals
the actual process. Magic tricks are often based on subverting our understanding of how objects and materials should react, countering expectation with surprise. Dr Jengo's Fantastical Juice Sharing Machine took our interest in shared interaction one step further by creating an experience for an audience as well the 2 people sharing the juice. Dividing a piece of fruit not into juice for 2 as expected, but into 2 half sized portions.
