Heading south of the river to INQ Mobile in Battersea. I've joined their Andriod UI design team, and will be helping to create a new line of handsets that have partnering services like Facebook, MSN and Spotify closely integrated.

Speaking at Design by Fire 2009 an interaction design conference in lovely Utrecht. Exploring the relative methods and merits of different ways to present Interaction Design, from story telling to prototyping; including some of the things we’ve been up to in the Service and UI Design team in Nokia. Interaction design by the sea at dconstruct 2009. The highlights of the day were a brilliant double bill on Stamen Design’s theory (Ben Cerveny) and practice (Mike Migurski), and stories about moving beyond digital stuff to real stuff and back by Russell Davies.

In Manchester for a day of Futuresonic, the ‘Social Technologies Summit’. It lived up to its tagline with a mix of artists, designers, broadcasters, teachers, city planners and entrepreneurs sharing their ideas and work. A panel on games design and culture has stuck in my memory, especially Philip Trippenbach’s presentation on games as journalism.

Hullabaloo

June 9th - August 6th 2006

Hullabaloo was exhibited in Urban Networks at Art Interactive, Boston, USA. This research project exploring people's experiences of urban sounds, in particular mobile phone ringtones, was created with Eric Paulos at Intel Research, Berkeley.

Audio Shaker is on the move again with exhibits in BAC's BURST festival in London (3rd - 20th May), and then its off to NIME06 in Paris (5th - 11th June)

Testing... This is not a simulation - an installation using RFID tags to construct a visual abstraction of party goers' activity. Part of a one night event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. A quick fire collaboration between Anthony Burke and David Ross (Architecture, UC Berkeley), Eric Paulos and myself (Intel Research) and Karen Marcelo (Dorkbot).

I was very excited to co-organise the Metropolis and Urban Life workshop at the Ubicomp2005 conference in Tokyo. An unusual and highly successful format brought together a diverse group of academics and practitioners in 2 days of discussion, design and urban exploration.

Greek London?

29th April - 6th May 2005

A meeting of minds and methodologies, research and representation - teaming up with Sociologists from the INCITE group at Surrey University and Goldsmiths College, London with Interaction Designers from the RCA. Vicky Skiftou and I designed collaborative, visual methods to explore the question 'Where is Greek London?' with customers of North London's many the Mediterranean coffee shops.
